China

In the beginning of the year I had the opportunity to go to the island of Hainan in China, to work in the ISA World Longboard Surfing Championship.

Spent a week in a little surfer town called Riyue Bay, being Wanning the closest big city.

The first impression was that the island was way bigger than I thought. It actually has more than 8 million habitants. And it’s really hard to find someone who speaks english.

The weather was nice. Specially compared to the danish winter. The whole island is quite tropical.

Also, everything is bigger. Before landing in Shanghai I could see the Shanghai Tower and surrounding skyscrapers around over the clouds. Or a huge island next to Riyue Bay with  unfinished hotels that I heard can’t be finished because it was illegal. There was also an abandoned hotel on a hill close to us.

In this island you can find many temples, mostly religious. And what you will definitely find the most is electric scooters. Whole families riding these little motorcycles everywhere.
